3 streams of Training Visa

  • Workplace-based training required for registration: if your client requires registration, membership or licensing to start an occupation in their home country or in Australia
  • Structured workplace-based training to enhance skills in an eligible occupation: if your client is nominated by an approved temporary activities sponsor in Australia for an occupation specified in the list of eligible skilled occupations and require structured workplace-based training to enhance their skills for that occupation
  • Training that promotes capacity building overseas:  if your client requires training as part of their overseas study or are supported by an Australian or overseas government organisation or your client is a professional or management level employee of an overseas organisation.

It is important to know that workplace-based training (except professional development) must be for at least 30 hours a week, of which no more than 30 per cent can be classroom-based.

Eligibility for Training Visa Applicants

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have 12 months of experience (full-time equivalent), obtained within the last 2 years. This experience can be study OR work/practical OR a combination of both.
  • Be sponsored by an approved sponsor
  • Be nominated for an approved occupation by the Australian organisation if it is not a Commonwealth agency
  • Be invited to apply for the visa if the sponsor is an Commonwealth agency
  • Meet Functional English Requirement
  • Have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Have adequate funds to support themselves during stay in Australia and make arrangements for health insurance for themselves and any accompanying family members. Their future salary in Australia can also be used as proof of adequate funds to support their stay in Australia.

Your clients can apply for this visa while they are in Australia or outside Australia. A detailed Training Plan suitable to the stream through which they are applying is required for approval. Eligibility for Sponsors

  • Be either an organisation operating lawfully in Australia, a government agency or a foreign government agency
  • Provide the occupational training directly
  • Ability to comply with all sponsorship obligations

Health and Character Requirements

Your client and all dependant family members are required to:

  • Undergo medical examinations within 12 months of lodging a visa application
  • Obtain police clearance from each country they and their family members have lived in for 12 months or more in the past 10 years

 

Health Insurance

Your client and all dependant family members are required to have adequate health insurance unless they are covered by Australia’s national health scheme (Medicare). Their health insurer could be in either Australia or home country providing coverage for the entire duration of stay on this visa.
