Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) FAQs

Still Unsure If Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Is Right for You ?

Explore common questions about RPL eligibility, evidence requirements, timeframes, and assessment outcomes. We’re here to answer your questions and guide you through the RPL process with confidence.

McKkr’s is not a Registered Training Organisation. We have partnered with various recognized RTOs who review the portfolios submitted by McKkr’s on behalf of the applicant. The RTO will issue the accredited Qualification on applicant meeting all the required criteria.

The RPL Assessment may generally take 2-4 weeks if the applicant provides all the evidence on time and in full as required and no further evidence is needed.

If your client has formal qualifications that are recognized, he could be eligible for Credit Transfer. Units of Competency from other qualifications can be used to complete RPL, provided that the qualifications and/or units of competency can be mapped to the current qualification. For the remaining units that cannot be considered for RPL, McKkr’s can arrange completion of units through online training.

Assessment for RPL will be based on the evidence to support the competencies held. The Assessor requires a Portfolio of evidence that can include, but not limited to, resume, copies of certificates and qualifications, licences, position descriptions held, samples of work, photos and videos of work undertaken, task sheets / job sheets, log books, training records, professional memberships, awards, performance appraisals and more. Assessors will ask for specific evidence requirements for each Unit of Competency with advice on the sufficiency, currency and validity of the evidence.

If we have any doubts about the authenticity of documentation or evidence submitted, a Statutory Declaration signed by a JP will be asked for.

Instead of focusing on quantity of evidence, ensure the quality of the evidence demonstrates that your client is competent against the criteria for the unit of competency.

During the assessment process, your client will be required to:

  • Answer questions about his work experience, skills and knowledge
  • Demonstrate his skills and knowledge by completing practical tasks or, showing the assessor how he would complete a task, and Provide supporting evidence such as a resume, job description, and reports from employers/supervisors etc.
  • The evidence must confirm that he has shown competence over a period of time and can work under different conditions

RPL is a quicker alternative to get a qualification. In some cases, your client may still need to study but only those few units where you are not competent. It is more convenient and cheaper to get a qualification through RPL than by studying the course. Most important benefit is that your client can continue working and does not have to take time off from work.
